Do I need a writing coach to write a nonfiction book?
Sep 21, 2023It's normal to have questions about whether you need a nonfiction book coach when considering writing your book. What do they do? How do they help? Can I write a book without one?
Firstly, please never think you must have a book coach to write a nonfiction book. Coaching or mentoring should never be viewed as a necessity that acts to exclude (along with writing retreats, fancy software, or a six-month sabbatical to immerse yourself in writing).
The reason most of my clients work with me is that they are new to writing and have to balance this with other responsibilities, such as running a business. They want to write a book but don’t want to spend months or even years working out the best way to do it.
A proficient book coach will save you time and show you how to shape your book to elevate your message. They will deal with the practicalities, such as setting you up to write and making suggestions on how to fit writing around other commitments. They will not only improve your current project but also equip you with skills that will enhance your future projects.
The writing journey can also be a lonely one, so many people want to know that they have someone in ‘Team Book’ that they can rely on to be as enthused about their ideas as they are. This also relieves the pressure on those around them at work or home who might not want to reread and discuss Chapter 7 again.
A professional coach will help craft your outline, suggest solutions for your structure, and bring ideas for the style, tone and layout. They will provide feedback on your work, rally you through imposter syndrome, provide accountability and even read around your subject matter so your message is fresh and unique.
You don’t need a book coach to write a nonfiction book.
But I’ll do everything I can to help with it.
